Your donation can touch more lives than you could ever imagine

Our journey to giving back started by looking forward.

We believe every elderly person has a right to a place they can call home, regardless of age, stage of life, means or needs.

Your donation to the Napier District Masonic Charitable Trust will help provide essential assistance for the growing number of older people in need.

Quote: Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua.  “I walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on my past.”

Established as an independent charitable trust in 1961 with a focus on providing affordable accommodation for our elderly, the Napier District Masonic Trust has a long history of having community at its heart. Everything we do is to create comfortable places and safe spaces for our residents, their families, and our team.

By donating or leaving a bequest, you help us ensure continual improvement to the services we can offer our residents.

An area where the need is greatest

The increase in the number of our population reaching 70 and over is already bringing about a growing demand for healthcare services, including age-related medical care, long-term care, and support services.

At NDMT, our purpose – our kaupapa, is to encourage and support the independence, activity, and personal wellbeing of our residents, within a caring, attentive environment. We do this by embracing the traditional Masonic principles of integrity, friendship, respect and service. With aroha, care and kindness, our aim is to provide a warm, homely environment delivering quality care day-to-day and a sense of support within all our facilities – for the people we look after and for our team.

Rental accommodation for the elderly in Napier

By 2028, a million New Zealander’s will be 65 or over – almost 20% of our total population. By 2034 more than one in five will be 65 or over. The NDMT will continue to develop more age-friendly rental housing options as the need for adequate and affordable housing for older adults grows.

Loneliness and social isolation are risks which can affect well-being and mental health. At the Napier District Masonic Trust, we wish to continue creating a more supportive environment that allows older individuals to live healthy, active, and
connected lives.

Scholarships

Whilst aged care is our primary focus, we also support various local charities and provide scholarships to assist local students and our staff with their tertiary education fees. It’s our way of saying thank you to the community we’re proud to part of.

The WT Dobson Trust was set up in 1990 to assist students from all the Napier District secondary schools, as they set out on their tertiary studies. Each successful student currently receives $6000 over 3 years of study.

More recently the NDMT established the Gasperich Scholarship fund for NDMT
Health Care Assistants wishing to pursue a nursing career as registered nurse practitioners. Recipients receive study assistance of $5000 per year for 3 years.

Future building development

Our Trustees genuinely care for our older community and have taken on the need for adequate housing in the future.

There are many elderly living in our communities without their own homes and the demand for suitable rental accommodation is growing.

We plan to increase our more affordable living options which include independent living villas and rental accommodation to cater for our over 70’s now
and into the future.
